Ann Brown Schmeltzer, RN,MEd
Ann first learned about the program in 2008 from a friend in Sioux Falls who was losing weight very quickly. “I had her send me product and I lost 40 pounds.”
Ann is a registered nurse who graduated in 1973. She holds a master’s degree in counseling, and is a certified cardiovascular nurse. Most of her years in nursing have been in cardiac and nursing management. She and her husband John have two children, Steve (and his wife Nikki), a daughter, Kristin (and her husband Chase), and 5 grandchildren.
When did you decide to bring Ideal Protein to Spearfish? “People kept asking me what I had done. I referred them to Kathy (regional director in Sioux Falls) and she finally convinced me to open a clinic in Spearfish in 2009. The program continued to grow, expanding to the neighboring towns of Belle Fourche and Sturgis. The offices have since been consolidated to the one location in Spearfish.
Why do you do this? “The health benefits I see for clients.”
What have you gained from Ideal Protein training sessions? “The networking with other centers.”
Words of wisdom for dieters: “Don’t cheat.”
Her biggest challenge while on the program? “A long weekend with a high school girlfriend — and I didn’t even cheat.”
Best tip? “Don’ cheat. You are only cheating yourself.”

Biggest struggle in maintaining: “Keeping up with veggies and water. I love the new cookbook!”
What do you most want people to know about the program? “It is a lifestyle change.”
